Tana French writes crime novels like no other, her books aren’t ones to be devoured (although the temptation is strong), they are literary fiction which just happen to be about murder. What follows is an exploration of the procedures of solving a crime, office politics and more twists and turns than Spaghetti Junction. It seems a standard crime scene until Antoinette realises that she recognises the victim but can’t think where from. Towards the end of a night shift Antoinette and Stephen are called to the suspected murder of a woman (Aisling) who has been found dead in her living room. She’s distrustful, argumentative and has a chip on her shoulder a mile wide in short the perfect unreliable narrator. Antoinette is also the victim of low-level bullying papers going missing, hidden evidence and her locker being broken in to. Antoinette and Stephen are now partners, the newest pairing in the Murder Squad and as such get the majority of the grunt work and uninteresting cases. The Trespasser features Antoinette Conway, previously seen in The Secret Place and Stephen Moran who we first encountered as a rookie in Faithful Place. Although reviews said it could be read as a stand alone novel this didn’t suit my OCD tendencies when it comes to sets of books so I promptly downloaded the first book, In The Woods (and haven’t looked back since. I discovered Tana French last year when I read a review of the The Secret Place, added it to my never-ending To Read list and realised it was the 5th book in a series. No pressure then!įirst up is The Trespasser by Tana French, book 6 in the Dublin Murder Squad series.

According to Goodreads I’ve read 34 books this year, which seems quite a lot but I’d set myself a target of 75 so I’m a little (ahem) bit behind. After an epic gap I’ve decided to rekindle my blog and write about the books I’ve been reading. I lost my reading mojo in 2016 and I’m hoping this will get me back on track so I can spend the rest of the year with my nose firmly in a book (or kindle in my case!) and set me away for 2017.
